I worked for about forty years in London’s West End as a professional illustrator working for the advertising, publishing, recording and film industries.
Because of this, my work tends to be realistic.
I paint in two basic styles which can be demonstrated on the first page of the Portrait section. The one of Frank Sinatra is in a loose, washed-on traditional style, and the one of Elvis Presley is in a tighter, more detailed style.
Throughout this site, I will describe a painting as either ‘loose’ or ‘tight’.
For portraits, I accept commissions either from photographs or sittings. I have to say that working from a sitting can take a long time whereas working from photographs,
either supplied by you or taken by myself, is a far more practical and economical option.
